Just a snapshot

Here is the thing about learning photography. You can never look at a picture the same. You start to notice every little limb chop, every bit of grain, every overly photoshopped face...etc. Then you become overly critical of your own pictures and stop enjoying sweet little snapshots.

Ugh.

The baby was super fussy today. He was not into being my model. Every single picture I took was crappy and out of focus. So frustrated. That said, I ended up with this little gem even if it is just a snap shot. I do not now why I like it so much but I just do.

My two little guys, my babies

My original baby

"Mommy, your artisitic vision sucks and I refuse to smile and play along. Also this picture is doomed to be hopelessly out of focus." Meanwhile my 12 year old was complaining all the while because his 17lb brother was "so heavy".

My Tequila bottles are in focus though

Long day.

  1. I'm in one of these funks right now too. I have a hard time not comparing myself to those that take better photos than me. Not a good place to be! :(

    Love the tequila bottles btw!

    1. If I could just take a picture that was in focus I would be thrilled. Thrilled! lol

  2. Your tequila bottles are scaring me! LOL You don't suck at photography at all. I love your pic!
Have you considered taking a photography class? I just went to a workshop on Sunday (4 hours-$65) and I have learned SO MUCH!

    1. There is a local photographer here that does workshops so I am hoping to take one with her. The last time she offered the boys all had football games. I am hoping she does one again before we start football in July. She was really reasonable, $50. I looked into taking a class through our university, they do lots of hobby/continuing education type classes but it was crazy expensive, like in the hundreds. Eek.

I am just really discouraged, I have read all the books (Scott Kelby, Bryan Peterson "Understanding Exposure") and I still suck. I am so sad about it, I actually cried this afternoon. Cried! I am such a baby. lol

  3. Oh my goodness! You take great pictures! I took the liberty of editing your last picture in Lightroom. I know you said he was pooping, but I think it's a great pic!

How is this not a perfect picture?
I highly recommend going to a workshop! I tired reading and watching YouTube and I just didn't GET IT (IOS, Shutter Speed and Aperture) until my workshop on Sunday. I've been shooting in Manual Mode/Raw Medium since then. :) It's fun!
    Don't be discouraged. I have a feeling you are a perfectionist :)

  4. I love it, thank you! Really, I love it!

I do need to shoot in RAW. I have been shooting in manual for awhile now but I have not made the jump to RAW yet because I am itimidated as heck by editing. Lucas installed in the entire Adobe Creative Suite for me and I have not used it yet. Maybe I should just switch it to RAW. I know I can set it so each picture is RAW and Jpeg, maybe I should try that until I am more comfortable with editing. I am just so discouraged with my focus. I have been using back button focus and that helps some. But ugh. Lucas says I am too hard on myself and it will all come with practice. I certainly hope so!

  5. No problem! I used Wisteria and Luxe Noir Presets from Pretty Presets' Fine Art Film Collection:
    http://www.lightroompresets.com/products/fine-art-film-collection

Our instructor told us to shoot in Raw Medium and Jpeg at the same time. But, you will need space on your computer to store all the photographs (Raw pictures take extra space).

I love my Lightroom! Lightroom + Pretty Presets (I buy their collections when I see them on sale)=excellent pictures! Pretty presets sells JPEG and Raw presets.
